PSYCH 4418: Case Study (TEXT)

 Case Study (Lil Georgie)

Little Georgie was a good boy; he always did what he was told and was a great student as well as an only child. Parents and school staff were just so happy to have him around. Little Georgie was four and some odd feet tall with a naturally happy face and a bigger boned build. Georgie was in Mrs. Temik’s grade five/six split class and enjoyed talking to everyone.

The school year was always filled with joy for Georgie. He was happy to see everyone he enjoyed the growth in responsibility. Georgie thought pretty highly of his academics as a grade five students as well. He loved the attention he got from his parents when he got good marks. His parents always boasted about him and loved him very much, it was no secret.

In the summers Georgie would go swimming with his parents at the quarries or go to the lake and boat around. But Georgie’s favourite thing to do in summer was go on fishing trips with his father. Georgie and his father would have their “boys weekends” at the park about an hour away from their home, sometimes Georgie would bring one of his friends but he really enjoyed the quality of just him and his father.

This is the summer that changed it all for Georgie. The sweet and quick growing young lad that everyone thought so highly of, lost something that summer going into grade six. Georgie and his father were returning home from a great weekend at the camp on a rainy, cold, and dark day. Georgie remarked about a weird feeling that was building up inside of his stomach since they left the camp and his father told him he had just eaten too many flakkie treats. Suddenly a down pour of rain just made the road slippery and the car’s windshield opaque. The vehicle hydroplaned right into the trunk of a massive oak tree on the side of the road. Georgie was okay, however his father had not done up his seat belt previous to their departure at the camp so, he had passed on.

Georgie lost more than his father in the car crash, he lost himself. He was not the same person that everyone loved and enjoyed, his mother had a hard time just upkeeping a conversation with anyone including her son. As much as people tried being there for Georgie, he was just not looking to be helped. He wanted to be left alone, he did not make it exactly clear but through hints to people to eventually got his wish. Georgie would swear at people, hit people and just ignore what everyone says if he wanted. People were really trying to be understanding but it was hard when Georgie was bullying everyone around him. Yes, that is right, Georgie became what people call a bully. He had become such a bully that no student would dare cross his path or ask him for any homework help anymore.

So what people need to understand and take from this story is that a bully may be a bully to you. But sometimes, they are just in a lot of emotional pain to themselves. Do not segregate bullies, try to teach them right from wrong, support them as people, not them as bullies.
