Lesson Plan-Grade 7

Lesson Plan Title: Befriend A Fox 

Concept / Topic To Teach: Resilience to Bullying and Descalation Skills 

Standards Addressed: Social Issues Awareness

General Goal(s):

· Uniting in the classroom

· To get the students to do their part as school leaders

Specific Objectives:

· To have students understand that bullying others is wrong, and even though you may feel like it’s a joke sometimes the other person does not

· Bullying can scar a person for life, it can severely diminish their overall happiness in life as well

· What goes around comes around

Required Materials:

· Reading from the internet Short Stories - A School Bullying Story - The Hunted Fox 83  (http://hubpages.com/hub/The-Hunted-Fox-A-School-Bullying-Story)

· “X” amount of handouts two for each student (one side of paper is lined and the other is blank)

· Extra stationary supplies just in case students do not have any

Anticipatory Set (Lead-In):

· Start by telling the class “you will all read something along with me” and then start reading to them the story The Hunted Fox (Be sure to use a lot of emotions while reading this so students feel the perspective of the victim)

·  Then discuss the message of the story with class (bullying is wrong, what goes around comes around, etc.)

· Tell them a story about you being bullied to lighten up the mood a small bit and then ask them what they think they can do to stop bullying

Step-By-Step Procedures:

· Have them draw a sad fox on the first white piece of paper (provided by the teacher)

· The other side will contain lines, in these lines the student will fill out a personal story anonymously, on the first piece of paper (tell them not to use any names)

· On the second piece of paper, have them draw a fox being helped by you

· On the second piece of paper (lined side) write about how you will stop bullying in your school

Plan For Independent Practice:

· Students will be instructed to get together with the grade three or four class and just discuss with them (one on one) experiences with bullying and explaining to them that they can always go to them to talk about any issues they have

Closure (Reflect Anticipatory Set):

· Students can reflect with their younger counterparts about the effects of bullying and how it can ruin friendships in and out of school

· Students of an older age can offer refuge for any younger students that feel they are lost or alone when comes to being bullied

Assessment Based On Objectives:

· Student’s participation with the younger students

· Students writing abilities (Teacher can track which students do what by putting a number on the work sheet that the student hands in and corresponding it with a name on a list, private so that no other students or parents can see it
