Yes, England is something I am sincerely considering folks. I am hooked up with Engage Education for a week long trip to find work with them over there in England. Originally I was supposed to be looking in the Grenwich area but apparently I was mistaken and it is actually the Brighton area I will be looking into.
Engage came to Lakehead originally at the beginning of the second semester here and set up interviews for mid-February. They liked what they saw and now I am looking into work with them. They are essentially a head hunting company looking for teachers going to teach in England.
Head hunters, for those of you who are wondering, are groups of people who go out and essentially take people's heads. No, actually it doesn't kill you, I know very impressive. They have developed technology in England after doing recent research at Stonehenge...turns out aliens are real. OMG! I am kidding relax...well aliens are real though..ugh just scared the crap out of myself. great...Eliza, get here, I need someone around, too quite...Neil? Hailey? Help? please come back to residence now? :P
So for real, head hunters are organizations that collect a specific set of of people. In this case, Engage is hired by a series of schools to find certain types of teachers. All schools in England do this since there are a lot more privatized schooling aspects in England.
Before even considering to go over there I needed to look at money. Not sound like I am not in it for the love of teaching, because I totally am! Seriously though, in all cases, the fact is I am ridiculously in debt to OSAP (Ontario's Shi**y A** Plan). Kidding, but real it sucks; for those unfamiliar, it is a loan students take to help pay for the thousands and thousands of dollars required of them to start a life...avoid rant, avoid rant, avoid rant....ugh whole other can of frog eyes.
Anyways, ya life is not exactly free (who woulda thunk right?) and my end game is to teach here in Ontario one day, I feel passionate about the people here because essentially these are my people. I know their problems and I know what we need to make it better and I think over time I will know exactly how to make it better; but nothing can be done without a naturally, man made (oxymoron for the win?) green resource. You guessed it! Money. Some of you say no, some of you say no...LOTS OF MONEY! I agree with the later. Everything has a cost in this world, don't say otherwise because you will lose.
If I can find a place that I can make a difference or feel like I made a difference while also being able to put money away, that would be great, thus why I was originally looking at teaching in China. Make lots of money to store away, probably pay off my debt in two and half years or so if I work there for the company I was looking into working with, Maple Leaf Schools. A whole different process in itself from that of which one goes through in England.
Nevertheless, England is a reality, it is doable, I am looking at a line of credit, full time work (if I can find a job), travel experience, medical benefits, academic classroom (ya right, I wish...hard to come by as a new teacher in England) and a pretty penny for a new teacher.
Engage is the best company I have spoken with so far, they certainly invested a lot of money for their marketing and appeal to people by send new recruits to England for a week to find work, all expenses paid except for meals and spending money.
I shall go on about the possibilities in the near future later, company is here :) and she brough a pizza sub with everything on it..extra spicy :D
